寻霖《黄本骥的三长物》（载《图书馆》1996年第4期），抄录虎痴先生《三长物斋记》，云：
余旧名斋曰式相好。自余兄花耘先生（按名本骐）即世， 不忍复称是名， 因易之曰三长物斋。三长物何物也？余不能书而嗜古人之书，秦汉以来金石文字数百种，为长物一。尝学琴于湖北沈山人，不能竟学而止，蓄旧琴及支琴砖各一，为长物二。囊无一钱而有周秦刀币数十品，以为铜匣而藏之若拱璧，为长物三。然则长物止此乎？ 驰逐名场三十年而名不成，有志读书而未暇， 吾身亦长物也。何止于三？第以三者皆有用之物，适与顽然之躯遇而辱为长物，则以三长物名吾斋也宜矣。
又作《後记》，云：
既以三长物名吾斋矣， 搜索斋中，复得三物。 一自制溪州石磬， 闻客谈猥俗， 铿然一击， 耳为之清。一历朝尺式，自唐虞至国朝靡不备，世有挟赝骨董者，不能欺以长短。一雲阳楼看山册。雲阳，长沙市楼也，乙酉重九後四日，集名流饮此，以诗画见贻者汇为巨册，用识朋友山水之乐。夫天下之物足供嗜学者岂有穷乎，今既汇三为六矣，由此而十而百而千万，皆长物也，皆可作三长物观也。故仍其名曰三长物斋。
按。不贤识小，窃谓虎痴斋中长物，後胜于前，尤以石磬为最可宝贵。顾非以顽石为可宝也，能为虎痴先生作铿然之声，是可贵也。寻文又云：
今亦有以本骥所藏宋版《颜平原传》与《李易安词》及先生夫人陈梅仙女史篆书册为三长物者。今颜传李词皆佚，唯陈梅仙遗篆辗转为现代长沙名士吴冠君所收，後转售湖南图书馆。
