天柱峰西北隅有石壁，略分四级，每级不过三十米，逐级而上，遂至顶峰。方法是，先将一条绳子缠在竿头，再将竹竿竖起，卡在石缝中；贺老师在腰间缠住另一条绳，攥住垂下的竿头绳，缘壁而上，及顶，则将竿头绳系在石顶小树上，以便将竹竿牵引上石。待老师料理妥当，将军亦将绳子缠在腰间，援壁而上。如此，重复四次，即能登顶。
