爱历史就是看热闹
千里之堤，溃于蚁穴，说败坏；不积跬步，无以致千里，说成功；表面上，意思相反，其实，说的是一个道理：大事都是从小事开始搞大的。对于当事人来说，大好事与大坏事，固然有区别。而对围观者来说，一旦搞大，则事情的好与坏已经不重要，程度深不深，规模大不大，节奏爽不爽，才有趣味。我是历史事件的围观者，我的“史观”，就是看热闹。
前一阵，与朋友吃饭，他说，你是研究历史的——我即回应，岂敢，我是历史爱好者——他摇摇手，继续说，你对辛亥革命有什么看法？到底这个革命对中国来说，是好事，还是坏事？或者，不说好坏，只说这个革命对近百年的中国，有何影响。我说，我不知道。他说，那你却说今年要写一本与辛亥革命有关的书？我说，没错啊，就写革命时期的一些人，根据比较可靠的材料，写写他们做了啥，想些啥，如此而已。他急了，说，难道你对整体就没有一点把握？就算是感觉，也可以讲两句啊。我说，感觉很多，也很乱，然而，无论如何，也无法升华到可以判断革命是好是坏的境界，更别说理论联系实际，谈什么百年的影响了。朋友气了，撂下一句，你读个屁的历史，算了，喝酒。
不是故意这么硌应。我真不知道。我就喜欢看热闹，看热闹也有错吗？
就拿我写的湘军故事来说吧。为什么要写湘军？自己总结，有三个原因。论空间，湘军诸人离我近。一座长沙城，那个街巷没有与湘军大佬小将有关的遗迹？当然，现在都拆得差不多了。论时间，晚清离我近。尽管晚清这个时段就严格的历史分期来说，并不严谨，不过，至早也就1840年，这才多久？论切身，近代以来局势与我所处的世界大有渊源。举个小例子，最近不是揭露了一位公证闭气超过两小时、徒手通电可达220V、号称人寿能活五百年的李大师吗？若在1900年，我真信他就敢混入革命团体义和拳去做大师兄；再举个大例子，为什么对美军航母进入黄海那么敏感，难道真没人忆起甲午海战的惨痛教训吗？依能近取譬之义，我自然对这段历史感兴趣。
湘军是一件小事，不过是国史的蚁穴与跬步。湘军与太平军，与捻军，与回民起义，其战胜攻取，究系内战。内战在国史上还稀罕吗？人早说了，中国历史，写在纸上的，不过是一部相斫书。有人更引申，字里行间，写的都是吃人二字。太阳底下无新事，就是历史。一切史都是当代史，不过故事。再往细里说，文人御侮，练民为兵，这不是新鲜事。文治武功，再造中兴，历史上演过好几回，也不是新鲜事。回光返照，接踵盛世而来就是崩坏，并非晚清才有的景致，更不是新鲜事。既然都不新鲜，为啥要写湘军？答：历史就是故事，归根结底，还是看热闹。
只是，既写历史，作者必然比读者费点心机。该读的书，最好一本也不少；该证的事，最好一点也不含糊；该同的情，最好一分也不狗血。作者以为自己看着了热闹，看清了热闹，那么，好好写出来，与读者共享。这就是不贤识小的“创作谈”。古往今来，那一部卓越的史书，那一篇优秀的文章，不是明明白白写一场热闹给读者看？虽未能至，心向往之。
至于拙撰，迄今有三部。《战天京》，个人稍觉得意；《天下残局》，什锦，方便喜欢看千字文的读者；《湘军崛起》，电视讲稿（事先无稿，事後记录），方便喜欢语体文大白话的读者。体裁有别，看热闹、传热闹之心，则一以贯之。目今正写两部书。一为曾国藩在北京，挖掘他在成为牛人之前的岁月，怎么在体制内往上混，怎么保持个人财务平衡，怎么与人类惯性作斗争，怎么一个看似平平无奇最终极限也就捞到副总理级别然后退休的人却成为近代的偶像——其实没有答案。另一部，辛亥革命，藉贴近人心的第一手资料，写革党帝党后党与逍遥党，写大时代的小心情，写革命的保守，写平淡的激情，写身处热闹之中的寂寞而这分寂寞在多年以後看来又是那么的前卫。其实，上述都是广告。
究是一个爱看热闹爱说热闹的人。说不好瞎说，见笑。
