查资料，检出杨怕翁草堂之灵。查毕，随便乱翻。怕翁与其兄虎禅师俱从湘绮学，此书多记湘绮言行及王门逸事，有一条说：湘绮门人治经学诗，专主一家，其馀书籍多不寓目，故孤陋之病随之而至。常人所必备者，彼均无之；常人所尽知者，彼不知之。湘绮次子王代懿治礼学，有时名，湘绮自挽联云春秋表未成，幸有佳儿传诗礼，即谓代懿。代懿尝问人：周濂溪为何人？闻者大骇。怕翁云：此无足怪，不知王党尚有不能问周濂溪为何人者。但是，他讲这个故事，并非讥讽同门，他说：世人皆知周濂溪，不见有何大益；仲章代懿字不知周濂溪，亦不见有何大损。且余不为说出，后世之读仲章书者，惟知其卓然成家，决不能料其为不知周濂溪等者也。这话说得很有道理，不经点出，谁信余秋雨会说“我也曾以这几个字见赠”呢？然怕翁更有发挥，若谓非尽知不足以言博，天下必无尽知之人——案今有google，差可“尽知”，然其不过为塞其阴茎search engine技术，非人也——博字遂为永不可得之境。与其遨游四海无家可归，不如竹篱茅舍之立足有所也。故余只劝人求精，不劝人求博。但不孤陋，不得谓之博；不博，不得谓之孤陋。故求学者可以不博，而不可以孤陋。见闻太狭，又不足以言学也。有所专又有所成者，可不求博亦不暇求博；无所专又无所成者，与其饱食终日，不如求博，亦可不为学人轻视也——看来，塞其阴茎技术犹贤乎博弈云尔。
