刘志盛撰《湖南藏书事业》云：
叶德辉藏书有《观古堂书目》，蓄书渐多，所涉猎之旧笈日益广泛。尝谓：“恨不读永乐大典，恨不读道藏，恨不读敦煌石室书”，为“三恨诗”以自矜许。居北京时，日夕与章炳麟对谈，炳麟仅许其博。没后，其藏书由日人山本假北京武学书局名义购去。其从子中能衍其绪余者，为辑《书林余话》，又编有《紬子书》，该录著录之书，由省文物管理委员会给价三千元收购，现藏湖南省图书馆。知子莫若父，叶德辉诗云：“吾家从子八九人，中有五子真绝伦，生儿不肖赖有此，豚犬那可比凤麟。”梗概言之矣。
刘氏为湖南图书馆研究员，其说当有所据。伯牛按，山本悌二郎，号二峰，为日本巨商，清末民初来华购藏大量文物，曾任台湾制糖会社社长，归国后出任田中内阁农林大臣，1937年死。静嘉堂似与山本无关。湖南图书馆藏善本书来源有五，第一大来源为：“接收湖南省文管会拨交的古籍善本书二千余部，其中有叶德辉侄子叶启勋、叶启发兄弟拾经楼、华鄂堂旧藏善本书数百种，有宋元刻本十多部，明刻本近百部，明清抄稿本数十部。以及道州何绍基、衡阳常大淳、湘潭袁芳瑛、沅陵冯星槎、长沙叶德辉、萧怡丰等名藏书家的善本书近千种”。又按、《书林清话》为叶启崟整理刊刻，叶启勋著《拾经楼紬书录》3卷，叶启发著《华鄂堂读书小识》四卷，应该就是叶诗誉为“绝伦”的侄子。据此，庶几可知叶氏藏书的下落。
